Hippo Roofing

Hippo roofing is a SHAM start to finish. My husband and I knew there were damaged boards, flashing and facia that needed to be replaced based on our home inspection when we bought the property in February.

We contacted 4 different roofing companies for estimates. The salesman from Hippo came out and sold us on their Guardian roof because it included unlimited boards and extra facia board as welln as a warranty. We were very clear that we wanted the rotten boards and facia replaced, my husband who is a general contractor estimated it would be at least 11 or 12 boards. We were assured that it would be taken care of.

With multiple problems during the install we were happy when they said they were finished with the roof. Upon our final walk through my husband asked how many boards they replaced and he was told 2. Only 2?? We were confused.

My husband at this time, went into the attic and saw that in fact many of the boards we had asked to be replaced were not done, as well the flashing was simply caulked and same with the facia. We brought this up to the salesman and other employee and were told it would be addressed at the Monday meeting ( this was on Sat) Even our salesman was shocked to find out that these items were not done. 3 days later, the GM calls after we have emailed and called with no response and basically tells us that the wood is only discolored and that its technically not rotten so it wasnt replaced. Same story for the flashing, the rust is only discoloration and isnt deteriorating.

We explained that we were very clear that we expected these items to be replaced and that the salesman that came out and brought our contract assured it would be. We got the salesman on a call with the GM and he even admitted that those were our expectations. Hippos position is that they are not technically rotten and that only boards that were are to be replaced. They take no responsibility in the lack of communication between what we expected and what we actually got.

No responsibility in explaining what their definition of rotten actually is. Even their salesman admitted on the phone call that he didnt know exactly what it meant until he researched it because of this situation with our property. How do you have someone selling roofs based on wood being rotten or not and he doesnt even know. How is the average person supposed to know what rotten wood is if the salesman doesnt.

Their position is that the contract didnt have any specifications on things being replaced other than rotten wood even though when we did the initial consultation we pointed out our version of the rotten wood. Their solution is that we have a warranty,(which we paid extra for) but with how things went and other reviews they would probably find some loop hole or grey area to not hold up their end on that as well. Id be surprised if they were even in business long enough to keep it up at the rate they are *** people off.

SO unless you are an expert on rotten wood, or list every single thing you want done down to the nail ( because they will probably argue that) I would NOT recommend this company. They are unprofessional, unreliable, and just SHADY!.

They take no responsibility for their employees and mistakes made on their end. RUNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

Take a look at these boards that were not rotten and the result we are left with. YES THIS IS AFTER THE ROOF WAS INSTALLED.

In 2016 we had a new metal roof put on. In the contract they were supposed to fix any wood rot that they found.

Now, less than 3 years later, we are getting ready to sell this house and found that they did not replace the wood rot that they found. They covered it with a board! We called, texted pictures, someone came out and took more pictures. That person identified spots on top of the roof that we did not see.

Then the person that came out to take pictures called us and relayed that the production manager said that it doesn't fall within warranty. There was no proof that they did that, because of the timeframe. Upon numerous phone calls, they have yet to call us back. I'm currently waiting on a callback from a lawyer because this has to stop!

They do substandard work and don't care about the quality of their work, customer service or customer satisfaction. Anyone needing a new roof, stay far away from Hippo Roofing!!

I called Hippo for an estimate to replace my 13 square cottage roof. I was impressed with their ad that said they can do metal for the same price as shingles.

So a young woman shows up and climbs my ladder. She says "This is the tallest house I've been on." A 1 story? Do I said "dont fall" and she reply's "Dont worry I've got medicaid" Then she comes in and show me a brochure and states we dont use subs, everyone has insurance (I wondered if everyone was an unwed mother with medicaid" the she brings out her computer and calculates $10200. TEN THOUSAND?

For a cottage? the other bidders were $6400 and 5200.

I ended up paying $4800. I recommend you know what things cost or coyotes like these will rob you while their sales staff also robs the government

I originally told the general manager / owner that I would not leave a negative review for the company. However, because Hippo Roofing has continued to come up short on promises and guarantees, I felt compelled to share a little of my story in hopes that it saves someone else from making the same mistake my family and I did by hiring Hippo Roofing to do our roof.

July 6, 2016, we signed an agreement with Hippo Roofing to have them do a metal roof-over on our residence. We did not have $15,500.00 lying around in the bank, so we had to finance the amount through Hippo Roofing. They immediately, that day charged us for half of the cost of the roof. We were told by the salesman that our roof would be completed within 3-4 weeks.

4 weeks went by and we did not so much receive a phone call from Hippo Roofing about when they planned on starting our roof. We did however, now have to make our first payment on a roof that had not been started. After numerous attempts we finally got a hold of the project manager who told us that were on the schedule for the next week. Another more week went by and nothing. So we spoke to the project manager who told us again the next week we would get started.

Fast forward a total of 9 weeks from the time we signed until the time Hippo Roof started our roof. I spoke with the general manager / owner and explained to him my displeasure with the lack of communication with his company and requested he look at our file to see if he could take some money off of the total bill since his company had failed to do the things they said they were going to do. A week later I received an email from him stating there was not any room for a refund by to accept a $100 check for my troubles. I returned his email and told him I did not believe he was doing right by his customers and that it seemed he only cared about his bottom line. He has not responded to that email. Nor do I expect him to respond to this review.

Finally after 9 ½ weeks our roof was finished. 2 days later the clan-up guy showed up and cleaned up half of the debris left behind. He told me he was going to the dump and would be right back. The next day when he hadn’t returned I again called the project manager. He assured me the clean-up guy would be back out either that day or first thing the next morning. He had no answer as to why the clean-up guy did not return the previous day. The project manager also advised that he would be dropping off my warranty information that night, he did not. The project manager further said he saw my email to the general manager / owner and agreed that the $100 offer was a slap in the face.

The next day at 11:30am the debris had still not been picked up. It was not picked up and until I left a voicemail for the project manager (who never once actually answered his phone he always called me back either hours or days later) and promised to load the debris in my truck and leave it at Hippo Roofing if he didn’t have it cleaned up by the end of the day.

I know this is long but it’s not really even half of the story. Working with Hippo Roofing was one of the worst experiences of my life. It is hard for me to understand how a local business that depends so much on word of mouth endorsements could treat a family as poorly as they treated us.
